If you’re looking for a NON Phone related opportunity, keep reading. GMR is a transcription company who is actively hiring transcribers to work from home. What’s the GREAT thing about them? They don’t require you to have much experience to get started.
From the company website: “To get started, all you need is a computer with high-speed internet, MS Office, a foot pedal, and over the ear headphones. No experience is required, but you must pass a strict transcription test. We do not charge any testing or registration fees to work with us.”
Additionally, they allow you to make your own schedule and choose the assignments you want to work on. Of course, the more you work and the more difficult the assignment the more money you will make. You are asked to accept at minimum 4 hours of audio each month and there is tons of work to go around.
There are a few drawbacks, the main being the following per the company website “all new typists must complete 2 hours worth of audio before receiving paid work. During this probation period, we will be carefully proofreading your work to ensure that your transcripts are up to our standards.” Although this is a requirement, I understand why. The company wants to ensure that they are providing the best quality possible to their clients.
I have done some research on the company and it appears that most current and former transcribers enjoyed the money. This would be perfect for those of you who are good typists and pay attention to detail.
The company does not disclose their pay rates, as all rates are based on turnaround time, number of speakers, and quality of audio. Here is a statement from the company: “Our transcriptionists/translators typically earn between $1,000 to $3,000 per month, depending on their skills and the kind of work they take. For example, a transcriptionist will earn more if they are willing to take more difficult assignments or files with expedited turnaround times. As our transcriptionists become more experienced, they start earning more income for the same amount of time they put in.”
If this is something you want to give a shot and don’t mind doing 2 hours worth of audio before proceeding with paid work. I highly recommend you check it out in your downtime. It just may be what you were looking for. As always, do your OWN research and keep a positive mindset. Good Luck!
